A small team with a bold dream launched Toronto Climate Week in 2025. The target was 20 events, 1,500 attendees and one day of programming to test the appetite.

Within four months, TOCW showed there was real demand for a platform that brings climate, business and policy together under one citywide umbrella. Our inaugural week, Oct 1–3 2025, drew 5,000+ attendees across 105 events. In 2026 we came back for a full week, June 1–7, and tripled that: 15,000 attendees across 200 events.

TOCW returns May 10–16, 2027. We want to make it bigger and bolder, and go further on our mission: to make Toronto and Canada a global hub for climate action.

Application Process

  1. Confirm your availability. To help us plan and keep things running smoothly, we ask all volunteers to commit an average of at least 5 hours a week in the planning months (July - February) and 10-15 hours in the active months (March - June). Each role below lists suggested hours.
  2. Fill out the volunteer interest form. Use the additional interest section to tell us which roles you'd like to be considered for.
  3. Watch for an email from us. If your profile fits a role we're hiring for, someone from the TOCW team will reach out to set up an intro call. We're a lean, volunteer-led team, so thank you for your patience.

Open Roles

Design & Creative

Graphic Designer (2 roles). Create TOCW's visual assets, including social graphics, event signage, sponsor decks, newsletter headers and on-site materials, all within our brand guidelines. You'll work closely with Brand & Comms and Programming to turn requests into polished work on deadline. Please share a portfolio. Experience Canva is a must. Experience with Figma, Adobe or video editing is a plus. Suggested: 5–8 hrs/week, increasing to 10-15 around March - June.

Brand & Comms

Comms Lead. Own TOCW's voice across every channel, including earned media. You'll set the key messages for 2027 - you'll also find the stories worth telling, pitch them to journalists and editors, and build lasting relationships with publications across digital, broadcast and print. You'll support social, newsletter and influencer work so everything we publish supports our goals, and you'll manage the Comms Coordinator. Media relations or PR experience is a strong asset. Suggested: 8–10 hrs/week, increasing to 10-15 around March - June.

Comms Coordinator. Keep communications running day to day and support our media outreach. You'll track the content calendar, gather updates from partners and teams, and help draft copy. On the media side, you'll research outlets and journalists, keep our media list current, help draft pitches and press releases, and follow up on coverage - keeping track of all mentions. You'll report to the Comms Lead, so this is a great fit for someone detail-oriented who wants to grow in communications and PR. Suggested: 5–7 hrs/week, increasing to 10-15 around March - June.

Digital Media

Social Media & Video Editor. Plan, create and publish content across TOCW's social channels, with a focus on short-form video. You'll edit reels from events, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, write captions, and track what performs. We need someone comfortable with CapCut, Premiere or similar tools. Suggested: 6–8 hrs/week, with on-site filming during Climate Week, increasing to 10-15 around March - June. 3 Coordinators and 1 Lead positions available.

Newsletter Coordinator. Help put together and send TOCW's newsletter. You'll gather updates, draft sections, format everything in our email platform, and keep subscriber lists clean. A good fit for a strong writer who likes a steady rhythm. Suggested: about 5 hrs/week, concentrated around send dates, increasing to 10-15 around March - June

Influencer Lead. Lead TOCW's influencer and creator strategy. You'll build genuine relationships with people and communities who can grow TOCW's reach on digital and social platforms. Suggested: 5–6 hrs/week, increasing to 10-15 around March - June

Community & Partnerships

Partnership Coordinator. Own a portfolio of TOCW partners, such as venues, accommodation providers, or service partners, and be their main point of contact from first conversation through to the week itself. You'll keep agreements and deliverables on track, and make sure every partner has a great experience and wants to come back in 2028. Think of it as an account executive role: part relationship building, part follow-through on the details. You'll work with Programming, Comms and Design to deliver what's been promised, and keep partner records current in our CRM. Experience in account management, partnerships or sponsorship sales is a strong asset. Suggested: 6–8 hrs/week, increasing in the lead-up to Climate Week

Indigenous Relations Lead (honorarium provided). Build and care for relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations and knowledge keepers in Toronto and beyond. You'll help make sure Indigenous voices and leadership are part of how TOCW is shaped, not added at the end. The work includes advising on land acknowledgements, protocols and programming, and bringing Indigenous-led events into the week. Lived experience and existing community relationships are strongly valued. Suggested: 4–6 hrs/week, increasing to 10-15 around March - June
